History:
It’s been quite a journey for this engine. The engine was built in 1922 at Fairbanks Morse’s Beliot Wisconsin factory. It’s was first shipped to Alaska where it was used to supply power for a fish cannery. In the 1930’s Mr. Wrigley bought the engine and had it shipped to Catalina Island (off the coast of Southern California) where it provided power for a crane that was being used on the Islands rock quarry. It was then move to Quartzsite Arizona where it was used to supply power for a lead smelting operation. The engine set idle for a number of years after the lead smelting operation closed down. In 1983 the engine was donated to the museum. Some of our brave volunteers went out to Quartzsite Arizona to retrieve the engine which was no easy task. Because of it location on the side of a hill the engine had to be disassembled before it could be move and loaded onto a flatbed truck. The engine was brought back to the museum were volunteers restored it to operating condition.
